Singer, songwriter and accordionist, Gregorio Uribe has forged a unique place in the music scene in both the United States and Latin America. The Colombian artist is the founder and leader of the Gregorio Uribe Big Band, a 16-piece orchestra that blends cumbia and other Colombian rhythms. In October 2015, Uribe released “Cumbia Universal,” featuring 8-time Grammy-winner and Latin music icon Rubén Blades. The album received widespread critical acclaim and landed itself on the Billboard music charts. The pairing later performed at sold-out prestigious venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, Villa Victoria Center for the Arts and Bogota’s iconic Teatro Colón.
Uribe has also embarked on a new side project, teaming up with Argentine singer-songwriter Solange Prat, in a duo entitled Sempiterno, where both artists come together to create and perform original songs and share life stories. Amongst his most acclaimed work, Gregorio participated in the Latin Grammy Award-winning album “Marc Anthony for Babies,” where he played the accordion as a guest artist and did the musical arrangement for the song, “You Sang To Me.” Locally, Uribe has guest starred with Latin icon Carlos Vives, as well as Latin Grammy-winners, Monsieur Periné on several occasions, including shows at NYC’s Madison Square Garden and Highline Ballroom.
Today, Uribe has put together a smaller ensemble that highlights his songwriting and presence of the accordion. This differs from the big band in its more compact size and organic style, while staying true to Uribe’s danceable rhythm. Up next—Uribe is in the process of recording his new self-composed album.
Named one of the “100 most successful Colombians abroad” by the Colombian government, we’re excited to welcome Gregorio Uribe to the HACPAC, where you can see him perform live as part of the 2019/2020 PAC the House Season!
